Guest lectures of Spanish Professors

We are pleased to inform that from 11 March 2024 until 13 March 2024 we will host the visiting lecturers from Spain - Prof. Jesús Verdú Baeza, Prof. Isabel Ribes Moreno, Prof. Carlos Varela Gil (University of Cádiz - Campus Algeciras) and Prof. Raul Laufente Sanchez (University of Alicante).

About the Speakers:
 
   
Prof. titular Raúl Lafuente Sanchez Prof. titular Raúl Lafuente Sanchez

full-time (tenured) Professor of Private International Law at University of Alicante, Spain; member of the Alicante Bar Association (ICALI). Visiting Fellow in the Law Department of the European University Institute in Florence. Prof. Laufente received his Law Degree, his Master in Legal Business Consultancy and his PhD in Law from the University of Alicante and his Master (LL.M) in International and Comparative Law, from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
He was a director of the Business School of the University of Alicante, and an Associate Professor of Private International Law at CEU Cardenal Herrera University Elche. Apart from his academic career, prof. Lafuente has been a Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Cajamar Comunidad Valenciana, a Chairman of the Legal Working Party of the Asociación Hipotecaria Española in Madrid and a member of the Legal Working Party of the European Mortgage Federation in Brussels, a Vice Chairman of the of European Union Law Lawyers Committee in the Alicante Bar Association and Stagiaire in the European Commission, Directorate-General for Competition in Brussels.
He has been a Visiting Professor at Università Degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale “Amedeo Avogadro”, Luis Libera Università Internazionale Degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli de Roma and Università di Bologna.  For several years he was an Academic Visitor to the Institute of European and Comparative Law- Faculty of Law, University of Oxford, UK; and a Visiting Scholar at the Wolfson College - University of Oxford, UK; a Visiting Researcher at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC, USA and a Visiting Scholar at the Maastricht European Private Law Institute of the University of Maastricht.


Jesús Verdú BaezaProf. titular Jesús Verdú Baeza

Vicerector  at the Campus of Algeciras of the University of Cadiz. He holds a law degree from the University of Seville and a PhD from the University of Cadiz. Currently he is a Professor of public international law and international relations at the Campus of Algeciras of the University of Cadiz. As a researcher, he has been involved in national and international research projects for more than twenty consecutive years. He is an author of more than fifty scientific papers published in Europe, Africa and the United States. Prof. Verdu has  participated in teaching activities in a large number of Spanish and foreign universities. His main areas of research focus on legal and political controversies of Spanish external action, specifically in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, controversies over Gibraltar and  international environmental protection, in particular, the fight against climate change.


Prof. Isabel Ribes MorenoProf. Isabel Ribes Moreno

Associate Professor of Labour and Social Security Law at the Algeciras Campus of the University of Cádiz;  PhD in Law from the University of Seville. She has been involved in teaching activities at a significant number of Spanish and foreign universities. As a researcher, she has been involved in national and international research projects for more than twenty consecutive years. Regarding her research, she has published more than fifty scientific papers published in Spanish, English and Italian. Her main areas of research are focused on maritime labour law, gender equality, effects of the climate change in the working conditions, labour consequences of Brexit for Gibraltar workers, European Labour Law.


Carlos Varela GilProf. Carlos Varela Gil

Associate Professor of Roman Law at the Algeciras Campus of the University of Cadiz;  PhD in Law from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has participated in numerous research projects; the author of more than thirty publications. His main area of research focus on Roman administration, property law and family law.
