Recruitment and tuition fee
Form of the qualifying procedure
Recruitment Committee issues a decision based on a scoring system based on submitted documents and the opinion issued by the professor who conducts doctoral seminar.
Date and place of submission of documents for the academic year 2016/2017
Documents should be submitted no later than 30/04/2017 to the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk, ul. Bażyńskiego 6, 80-309 Gdańsk, room 2060, or electronically by e-mail to the address email@example.com (original documents should be submitted in person or by mail).
A candidate applying for admission to doctoral studies must provide:
filled in and signed application form
colour copy of identity document,
three pictures of size 45 mm x 65 mm,
in the case of a candidate who graduated from Poland – a copy of Master diploma,
document confirming command of English, in accordance with § 2, 3 and 4 of the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 12 October 2006 relating to the taking up and conducting the study and training of foreign nationals and their participation in scientific research and experimental development (Journal of Laws No. 190, item. 1406 with amendments).
A candidate applying for admission to doctoral studies may provide:
opinion from the workplace, other opinions or recommendations,
brief presentation of the concept of a doctoral dissertation,
scientific documentation (eg. list of publications, information about prizes).
Additional documents required from a foreign candidate
Candidates must hold a diploma or other evidence of completion of their studies abroad, recognized, in accordance with the provisions on recognition of higher education diplomas obtained abroad or on the basis of an international agreement for the Polish equivalent of a Master’s degree or second-degree master studies.
Candidates who are not Polish citizens can take doctoral studies under the terms of Art. 43 and 44 of the Law on Higher Education of 27 July 2005 (Journal of Laws No. 164, item. 1365, with amendments) And Decree of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of 12 October 2006 on taking up by foreigners of study and training, and their participation in research and development projects (Journal of Laws No. 190, item. 1406, with amendments). With regard to the necessary documents required from candidates the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Science of 1 September 2011 on the recognition of higher education diplomas obtained abroad (Journal of Laws No. 196, item. 1168) is applied as well.
A foreign candidate must:
have a visa or card of residence or any other document entitling them to stay on Polish territory;
demonstrate a good health, documented by a medical certificate stating there are no contraindications to taking up education in a chosen field;
have an insurance policy in the event of illness or accident for a period of education in Poland or the European Health Insurance Card or insurance under the National Health.
A foreign candidate must provide the following documents:
original diploma obtained abroad (in the case of non-Polish citizens legalized or bearing an apostille),
copy of school leaving certificate or diploma of higher education, on the basis of which the candidate has been admitted to studies,
statement that the foreign degree has not been subject to recognition procedure in any Polish university.
A person applying for admission may be exempted from recognition procedure, if he has a university degree:
issued by an authorized institution operating in the education system of a Member State of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation, of the Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or countries - parties to the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the Region European, signed in Lisbon on 11 April 1997;
enabling to apply for admission to doctoral studies in the country of graduation.
In such a case, the candidate submits to the Council of the Faculty of Law and Administration of UG:
application for exemption from the recognition procedure,
certificate issued by the competent educational authorities or the appropriate diplomatic or consular representative of a Member State of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation or a Member State of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or the appropriate consul of the Republic of Poland, confirming that the diploma entitles to apply for admission to doctoral studies in the country of graduation.
Points awarded in the recruitment procedure (scoring)
Following the submission of the required documents a candidate chooses the scientific supervisor from the roster indicated by the study program or the Recruitment Commission proposes a supervisor basing on the scientific interests of a candidate. The person supervising a seminar issues an opinion on the candidate.
The Recruitment Commission carries out the classification of the candidates on the basis of the documents submitted and the evaluation of the scientific supervisor.
Scoring of the recruitment process:
1) Compatibility of a profile of completed studies with the objectives of education - 3 points, including: diploma in the field of law - 3 points, social sciences - 2 points, other studies - 1 point;
2) Score on the graduation diploma – up to 3 points;
3) Publications and scientific articles – up to 7 points;
4) Presentation of the concept of the planned doctoral dissertation - up to 8 points;
In total, the candidate may score a maximum of 21 points.
The minimum number of points conditioning the admission is 8.
If the number of candidates exceeds the limit, the acceptance will be determined by the number of points.
Candidates will be notified of the decision of the Recruitment Committee electronically and by mail.
Tuition fee is 3,500 EUR for one year*.
*For EU citizens the price for doctoral studies is 10.000 PLN per year.
The non-refundable additional fee in the first year of studies (only for non-EU nationals) is 200 EUR.
