Scientific visit of Prof. Rashmi Patowary and Prof. Karan Latayan (O.P. Jindal Global University, India)

We are pleased to inform that on April 19-25, 2022 we hosted visiting lecturers from O.P. Jindal Global University: Prof. Rashmi Patowary and Prof. Karan Latayan. The guests were welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Marcin Michał Wiszowaty, D.Sc., Deputy Dean for International Cooperation and Development. On the following days guests conducted a series of lectures.

Prof. Rashmi Patowary took part in Financial Law classes: Financial Market Law (hosting professor: Prof. A. Jurkowska-Zeidler) and  Tax Law – seminary,  (hosting professor: Prof. E. Juchnevićius).

Whereas Prof. Karan Latavan took part in Public Competition Law classes (hosting professor: A. Dobaczewska) which took part also students of Prof. A. Powałowski)  and Economic Contract Law (hosting lecturers:  dr. G. Sikorski, Assoc. Prof. B. Gliniecki) classes. Moreover Prof. Latavan was invited by Assoc. Prof. Joanna Kruczalak-Jankowska, Head of the Department of Commercial and Private International Law for a meeting with employees of the Department.

Prof. Rashmi Patowary holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from King’s College London (KCL) and B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA). She is currently pursuing her Doctoral Studies from Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University in the area of Green Finance.

Prior to joining JGU, she served as Teaching Assistant at National Law University, Jodhpur (NLUJ) from December 2017 to January 2019. Her primary areas of interest are banking law, financial law, investment law and environmental law.

Besides academics, Prof. Rashmi Patowary enjoys playing badminton, piano and is also a yoga enthusiast.

 

Prof. Karan Latayan has worked as Law clerk-cum-Research Assistant to Justice Aftab Alam, then sitting judge of the Supreme Court of India. As a law clerk, he assisted the judge in drafting and researching on a number of judgments, including – (1) Novartis AG v. Union of India and Others – which is the first case in India on the question of grant of product patent to a pharmaceutical substance, and (2) Md. Ajmal Md. Amir Kasab @ Abu Mujahid v. State of Maharashtra – which relates to the terrorist attack on Mumbai on November 26, 2008.   Pursuant to the LL.M, Karan took up employment with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. (SAM) as an Associate in the Competition Law Practice. At SAM, he was actively involved with advising clients on various aspects of the merger control regime in India, including, issues pertaining to notifiability of transactions and filing merger notification with the Competition Commission of India. He also advised on behavioral / enforcement matters under the Competition Act, 2002, and was involved in the infamous 2nd Tyre Cartel Case.
