History of the Department:

The Department was established in 2008 on the basis of the European Centre founded by prof. Zdzisław Brodecki in 1995. Research fields include the philosophy and theory of European law, the processes of the constitutionalisation of European law and the Europeanisation of national law, the role of courts and judicial dialogue in integration processes, the relationship between political integration and integration through law, the substantive law of the European Union and the comparative studies of legal systems. These correspond to the Department's teaching, which takes place in the form of lectures, seminars, doctoral studies and foreign law schools in cooperation with foreign institutions (Cambridge, Toulouse).

In 2013, after several decades of scientific work, prof. dr hab. Zdzisław Brodecki retired and dr hab. Tomasz T. Koncewicz, prof. UG. took over as head of the Department.
