Scientific development and research of the Department
on the 50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Law and Administration (1970-2020)

 

The history of the Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection Law

The history of the Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection Law dates back to 1994 when two independent entities – the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Law and the Department of Public Economic Law by a resolution of the Faculty of Law and Administration and the UG Senate established the Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection Law. The head of the new unit was prof. dr hab. Janina Ciechanowicz-McLean. In 2016, prof. dr hab. Andrzej Powałowski took over as head of the Department.

The Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection Law uniquely combines business and environmental issues. Such a modern field of research at the Department enables the implementation of the concept of sustainable development in education, economy, and law. The Department remains one of the leading research centres in this field among all law and administration faculties in Poland.

 

The Department cooperates scientifically and didactically with the Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Oceanography and Geography, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Biology. Within the framework of its teaching activities, the Department offers a wide range of compulsory and optional subjects in all fields of study at the Faculty of Law and Administration in all modes and forms, as well as at other faculties of the University of Gdańsk.

The Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection Law enriches the educational offer of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk by offering up to three types of postgraduate studies:

The Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection Law also extends its scientific care to the Public Economic Law research group.
