Two International BIP Programmes at our Faculty

From 19 to 23 May 2025, the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdańsk hosted two parallel Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) – prestigious initiatives supported by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme, combining online learning with an intensive week of on-site academic and intercultural activities.

BIP: “LegalTech Fusion – Navigating the Legal Landscape of Artificial Intelligence”

The first programme, titled “LegalTech Fusion – Navigating the Legal Landscape of Artificial Intelligence”, focused on the legal and ethical challenges posed by the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

Participants – law students and young researchers from partner universities – took part in a series of lectures, workshops and discussion sessions led by renowned experts, including Prof. Edvardas Juchnevičius, Prof. Marcin M. Wiszowaty, Dr Damian Cyman, as well as distinguished guests from Uzbekistan: Prof. Said Gulyamov and Dr Anna Ubaydullaeva from the Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL).

The student cohort represented four European partner universities:

Parthenope University in Naples (Italy) – a SEA-EU Alliance partner,

European Humanities University in Vilnius (Lithuania),

Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic),

Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (Slovakia).

A highlight of the programme was the Oxford-style debate, held in cooperation with the Ars Bene Dicendi Debate Club. The motion for the debate was:

“This House believes that the use of AI tools during exams and assessments should be prohibited.”

The mixed debate teams, composed of students from Italy and the Czech Republic, delivered compelling arguments. An engaged audience – including students from the Faculty of Law and Administration and from TSUL – followed the discussion with great interest. Ultimately, the winning team opposed the motion, successfully persuading the audience that responsible use of AI in education can support, rather than undermine, the learning process.

BIP: “Law, Happiness and Artificial Intelligence: An Interdisciplinary Perspective on the Future of Society”

The second programme, titled “Law, Happiness and Artificial Intelligence”, addressed the social, emotional and cultural implications of AI for human well-being.

Lectures and workshops were delivered by an interdisciplinary team of instructors: Prof. Edvardas Juchnevičius, Prof. Marcin M. Wiszowaty, Mr Stefan Biedronka, and Dr Damian Cyman. Participants explored themes such as loneliness in the digital age, emotional needs in AI-mediated relationships, the impact of AI in popular culture, and emotional manipulation in online services and banking.

Both programmes featured a rich cultural and social component, including a film screening, photo sessions at the beaches in Sopot and Stegna, and a full-day educational excursion to Malbork Castle – one of Poland’s most iconic medieval landmarks.

The two BIP programmes offered participants a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, foster international academic collaboration, and apply interdisciplinary skills in a dynamic environment.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participants and lecturers for their commitment and energy throughout the week. Special recognition goes to Prof. Edvardas Juchnevičius, whose dedication to organising both programmes was fundamental to their success.

We also thank the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Wojciech Zalewski, for his continuous support for international initiatives, and the UG Office of International Cooperation for their invaluable organisational assistance and collaborative spirit throughout the planning and implementation of both events.
