Criminology and Criminal Justice
Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Gdańsk is an ideal choice for people who want to gain broad interdisciplinary knowledge. Students of our degree course deepen knowledge related to deviant behavior, including crime in the first place. As part of the studies, we introduce students to issues related to the determinants of crime and knowledge covering the organization of the criminal justice system. We recognize criminology as a meta-science covering various research trends. We focus on the causes of crime, their phenomenology, as well as methods of combating pathologies. An important element of the program are classes covering the issues of forensic medicine, psychopathology, resocialization pedagogy, and criminal biology. Students will be familiarized with the philosophy and sociology of punishment as well as criminal prevention as part of the study program. Lecture involves the presentation of the problems in the comparative context, taking account of existing achievements and ongoing activities of organizations and institutions with an international and pan-European range.
The course lectures as part of the Criminology and Criminal Justice study program are taught by Polish and foreign researchers in various fields. Studying also takes place under the supervision of practitioners of the broadly understood justice system, for example curators, judges, lawyers, prosecutors, mediators, doctors and psychologists.
