Dr. Marcin Michalak achieves High-Impact Publication in Leading EU Law Journal Through International Research Collaboration
Following a research fellowship undertaken by Dr. Marcin Michalak (Department of European Law and Legal Comparative Studies, Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdansk) at City, University of London, a joint scholarly article has been published in the Common Market Law Review – one of the most prestigious periodicals in the field of European Union law.
The article entitled "European Union Border Law During The Covid-19 Pandemic" was co-authored with Tamara Hervey, Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law, who is recognised as a leading specialist in European Union law and EU health law, and author of numerous seminal publications in this field.
The Common Market Law Review ranks among the highest-classified scholarly journals in the fields of European Union law and international law. Published since 1963 by Kluwer Law International, it holds leading positions in international bibliometric rankings:
- Journal Citation Reports (Web of Science): Impact Factor 2.020;
- Google Scholar: 5th place in the EU Law category, 9th place in the International Law category;
- Scopus: highest quartile (Q1) in the Law category (CiteScore 2023: 3.1; SNIP 2023: 1.638);
- MEiN Registry: 140 points.
The publication constitutes an analysis of the mechanisms for applying European Union law regarding the regulation of internal and external borders during the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2020 – June 2023). The authors identify four key areas that shaped EU border law during this period: the reinterpretation of the relationship between the principle of free movement and public health protection; the differentiation of access to mobility in geopolitical and individual dimensions; the utilisation of soft law instruments for coordinating Member State actions; and the application of technocratic crisis management mechanisms.
