Uzbekistan is actively reforming its Private International Law (PIL) to align with global legal standards amid growing international trade and investment. The Civil Code (Chapter 71) governs key aspects of PIL, including choice of law, jurisdiction, and recognition of foreign judgments. Current reforms aim to clarify and modernize these rules, particularly in areas of international contracts, personal status, and property rights. Revisions to procedural rules on jurisdiction and enforcement of foreign judgments aim to improve legal certainty for foreign parties. Additionally, institutional improvements, such as specialized training for judges and the creation of dedicated court chambers, enhance the effective application of PIL. These developments promote Uzbekistan as a reliable and modern legal environment for international cooperation.
