Brief summary:
The European Union has introduced several new sustainability laws, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which have substantial impacts on global supply chains. This lecture examines whether these legislative instruments represent truly transformative mechanisms for sustainable development or whether they function as neocolonial instruments that impose disproportionate regulatory burdens on the Global South.


Guest Lecture by Atty. Shuma Talukdar (School of Law, Mahindra University, INDIA)Shuma Talukdar is an Advocate registered with the Bar Council of India and a certified corporate governance professional, bringing over 18 years of experience to her roles.
She is also a doctoral researcher at Mahindra University (India).
Talukdar holds dual master's degrees in Business Law and Public Administration and is affiliated with professional bodies such as the IUCN-WCEL Specialist Group and Ethics Task Force (focusing on Biodiversity Law and Climate Change Law), Enjust Network, and Daughters of Themis - an international network of women business law scholars.
Her research interests include sustainability law, transnational law, and governance.
