This lecture examines the legal and conservation framework for protecting the GIB, focusing on the National and International legal measures and Environmental Principles like Precautionary Principle, Polluter and Pays Principle etc.. Indian Supreme Court decisions demonstrate their application to biodiversity protection. The lecture also evaluates limitations of conservation measures and explores technology-based monitoring, habitat restoration, power-line mitigation, and community participation. It advocates an integrated, science-based, and legally supported approach for the GIB’s survival.
