Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming digital governance, yet its rapid adoption raises significant concerns regarding privacy, data protection, equality, transparency, and human dignity. This paper examines the intersection of AI, data protection, and human rights through a rights-based approach to digital governance. It analyses how AI-driven decision-making, extensive data collection, profiling, and automated processing may affect fundamental rights and explores the adequacy of existing legal and regulatory frameworks. Drawing on comparative perspectives, the paper argues for accountable, transparent, and human-centric AI governance that integrates data protection principles with human rights safeguards. It proposes key principles for developing sustainable and rights-respecting digital governance frameworks.
