Conference The Commonality v The Divergence: The rule of law standards and the role and limits of the courtroom with the participation of the academics from the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Gdańsk 

On 21 June 2021 at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk (online), an international scientific conference entitled "The Commonality v The Divergence: The rule of law standards and the role and limits of the courtroom" was held.

The conference was organised by the RECONNECT Team of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk as part of a four-year multidisciplinary research project entitled 'Reconciling Europe with its Rules of Law". The main objective of the project is to gain a fuller understanding of the European Union and its citizens through Democracy and the Rule of Law. The primary goal of the project is to gain a better understanding of the challenges currently facing the European Union and to propose appropriate solutions to address them. Focusing on strengthening the legitimacy of the EU through democracy and the rule of law, RECONNECT seeks to build a new narrative for Europe, enabling the EU to better respond to the expectations of its citizens. RECONNECT brings together 18 partner academic institutions from 14 countries. 

 

The main theme of the RECONNECT conference at the WPIA UG was the analysis of the role of supranational and national courts in the process of creating and guaranteeing a sound standard of the rule of law, which is not only a fundamental systemic principle but also a core value of the European Union. 

During the conference the main lecture entitled "The Judicial Virtues and the Rule of Law" was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Widłak from the Department of Theory and Philosophy of State and Law.
 

"The existential jurisprudence in the defense of the European First Principles. A view from Kirchberg" was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Koncewicz. 

The session involving a discussion with common court judges on the importance of the rule of law in their judicial practice was moderated by Marcin Michalak, PhD.
