Polish-Italian Scientific Seminar: "The Discipline of Smart Working in Italy"

"Smart Working", and in particular the analysis of its regulations in Italy and Poland and the prospects for protecting smart employees in the era of digitization before and after the global Covid-19 pandemic, was the subject of an international seminar that took place at our Faculty on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

The seminar on flexible work organization is the result of joint projects ("The Perspectives on Protection of Smart Workers in the Era of Digitization, Before and After the Covid-19 Global Pandemic" and "The impact of systems based on A.I. (artificial intelligence) on Employment Law : new challenges and new protections”) run by the Department of Labor Law of our Faculty (headed by Assoc. Prof. Monika Tomaszewska) and partners from the Sapienza University of Rome.

The foreign guests were welcomed at the Faculty by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk, Assoc. Prof. Wojciech Zalewski, who opened the Seminar. Among the participants were outstanding scientists from Italy, e.g. Prof. Domenico Mezzacapo, Dr. Fabrizio Ferraro, Dr. Dario Calderara, specialists in labor law and administration, who presented the results of their research and shared practical tips. Papers were also delivered by PhD students from the Sapienza University of Rome: Gianluca Giampa and Flaminia de Giuli, who are undergoing a three-month internship at our Faculty. The introduction was delivered by Dr. Michał Szypniewski from the Department of Labor Law of our Faculty.

The aim of the seminar was to discuss issues related to Smart Working, and in particular to analyze its regulations in Italy and the prospects for protecting smart employees in the era of digitalization before and after the global Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, issues related to the impact of systems based on artificial intelligence on labor law, new challenges and protection measures will be discussed. Undoubtedly, it was a great opportunity to exchange views, discuss and establish new contacts with experts in this field.
