American March at the Faculty (2): Prof. Harold Krent’s Lectures

As part of the Gdańsk Master Lectures series, the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdańsk had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Harold Krent from Chicago-Kent College of Law for two outstanding lectures on American constitutional law and the influence of artificial intelligence on the justice system.

The first lecture, “President Trump’s Exercise of Executive Power: The First 45 Days,” explored the essence of presidential executive orders – their historical background, legal controversies, and how courts have ruled on them over the years. The Q&A session sparked particular interest when Prof. Krent discussed the constitutional evaluation of the most recent executive orders issued by President Donald Trump. The full auditorium was a testament to the high level of interest in American constitutional law.

The second lecture, “AI in the U.S. Criminal Justice System: An Overview,” provided a fascinating analysis of the growing influence of artificial intelligence in American law enforcement and the justice system. Prof. Krent highlighted both the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of AI in criminal investigations, sentencing, and legal decision-making.

Prof. Krent’s lectures were an extraordinary opportunity for our students to engage with a leading expert in American constitutional and criminal law and to explore the complex relationship between technology and the justice system.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof. Maciej Barczewski (Dean’s Representative for International Cooperation) and the Dean's Office for organizing the visit of Prof. Krent and ensuring that everything ran smoothly.

Special thanks also go to the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Wojciech Zalewski, for his kind support for our  American Month and for consistently encouraging and supporting international initiatives that enrich the academic experience of our students.

We are incredibly grateful to Prof. Krent for sharing his expertise and inspiring our students. His visit was a highlight of our ongoing efforts to provide our students with global perspectives on legal challenges and governance.

Stay tuned – American March continues! In the last week of March, we will welcome Prof. Stephen Ware, a Frank Edwards Tyler Distinguished Professor of Law from the University of Kansas. Don’t miss it!
