Meeting with Retired FBI Agent Grey Steed and American Attorney John Webb
On 21 May at 1:30 p.m., we invite you to take part in a special online meeting with two distinguished guests from the United States: Grey Steed, a retired FBI agent, and attorney John Webb, an eminent criminal defence lawyer.
The meeting will be held as part of the classes conducted by our guest, attorney Steven Oberman, who has organised the event to give students an opportunity to speak directly with legal practitioners and individuals with first-hand experience of federal investigations and the administration of justice in the United States.
A few words about our guests:
Grey Steed began his service with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1975. He specialised in cases involving white-collar crime, fraud, embezzlement, corruption, telemarketing fraud, healthcare fraud, and international financial fraud. For 15 years, he was a member of the FBI SWAT Team, and for 12 years he served as a hostage kidnapping negotiator.
After 25 years of service with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Grey Steed joined NOVA Information Systems in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he established a special investigative unit dedicated to combating identity theft fraud. He also assisted the FBI in matters involving financial transactions linked to Osama bin Laden’s network following the attacks of 11 September 2001. Viewers of the Netflix documentary series devoted to the Tylenol poisoning murders may recognise Grey Steed from that production, titled in English Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders.
The second guest will be attorney John Webb, an American lawyer practising in the State of Maine, who specialises in criminal defence, in particular cases involving driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. John Webb has received numerous professional distinctions, including being named a Super Lawyer for nine consecutive years, a recognition granted only to a select group of lawyers in each state. He is widely regarded as one of Maine’s leading criminal defence attorneys.
John Webb graduated from Vermont Law School with a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, having previously graduated from Maine Maritime Academy. Before entering the legal profession, he worked as a mechanical engineer for the United States Department of the Navy, including on projects relating to Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. He also gained professional experience during a three-year internship at the York County District Attorney’s Office in Maine.
The meeting will offer students a rare opportunity to speak with individuals whose careers combine many years of investigative, legal, negotiation, and courtroom experience.
We warmly invite members of our Faculty and University community to take part. We hope the audience will ask many questions, and we look forward to an engaging discussion.
The event will be held online via Zoom.
Language of the meeting: English.
