Lecture by Professor Alvaro Bedoya: "Artificial Intelligence in Competition Law"

The Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk together with the Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection, the Department of Legal Informatics and the Department of Private International Law operating at the Department of Civil Law are pleased to invite you on May 7, 2024 at 6.00 p.m. to Auditorium C (building of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk) for a lecture organized as part of the Seminar of Doctoral Students of the Department of Public Economic Law and Environmental Protection entitled Artificial Intelligence in Competition Law.

The lecture will be delivered by Professor Alvaro Bedoya from Georgetown University, Head of Georgetown Law's Center on Privacy & Technology - currently holding the office of Federal Trade Commissioner.

Professor Alvaro Bedoya graduated with honors from Harvard College. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School. While in law school, he worked for the NAACP Wilmer Hale Legal Defense Fund and for Senator Ted Kennedy on the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security.

After graduating from law school, he was a partner at the WilmerHale law firm. He then served as chief counsel to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law and as chief counsel to Senator Al Franken of Minnesota.

Professor Alvaro Bedoya was the founding director of the Center for Privacy and Technology at Georgetown University Law Center, where he also became a visiting professor. His work has had a significant impact on research and policy at the intersection of privacy and civil rights. As a co-author of a 2016 report, he commented on the use of facial recognition by law enforcement and the threats it poses to privacy, civil liberties and civil rights.
