Marcin Michalak, PhD from the Department of European Law and Comparative Legal Studies participated in a debate organized by Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute in Florence.

Marcin Michalak, PhD took part, as one of the panelists, in debate entitled Mutual Trust and the Rule of Law: Behind and Beyond the LM Case, where he presented the speech "The Polish Background to the LM Case: The Rule of Law Challenges to the Effective Functioning of the Mutual Trust ".
 
This online debate inaugurated a series of 3 webinars organised within the framework of the project TRIIAL – TRust, Independence, Impartiality and Accountability of legal practitioners safeguarding the rule of Law under the EU Charter. The TRIIAL project, which was funded by the European Union’s Justice Programme (2014-2020), under G.A. no 853832, is dedicated to discuss caselaw on trust, independence, impartiality and accountability of legal practitioners. In the webinar series, a panel of experts shared views, also in a comparative perspective, on recent European and national case law and arbitration decisions relevant to the project.
 
In his speech, Marcin Michalak, PhD presented the significance of the judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union in cases C-216/18 PPU Minister for Justice and Equality / LM and C-354/20 PPU and C-412/20 PPU Openbaar Ministerie, from the Polish perspective. In particular, the speaker was considering the issue of the so-called the two-step test that the judicial authority requested to execute a European arrest warrant must carry out before suspending the execution of the EAW.
