Strengthening Student Cooperation Between students of the University of Gdańsk and Tashkent State University of Law
The partnership between our Faculty and Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) continues to flourish, bringing Polish and Uzbek students together through academic initiatives, international exchanges and joint projects.
Another important step in developing this cooperation was the international conference “The Role of Student Self-Government Bodies in Legal Education: New Trends and Methods of Conceptual Development”, held in Tashkent on 28 September 2026 as part of the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of TSUL and the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence.
Organised by TSUL and the TSUL Students’ Association under the motto “From Initiative to Impact: Student Governance – the Future of Legal Education”, the conference was officially opened by Rector Prof. Bakhshillo Khodjayev.
The event brought together distinguished experts and student leaders from Uzbekistan and abroad. The plenary session featured representatives of the Uzbek parliament, the Youth Parliament under the Senate, and experts from Türkiye and Pakistan. Discussions focused on student self-government, protecting students’ rights, academic engagement and the role of student organisations in shaping modern legal education.
Our Faculty was represented by Błażej Kirszenstein, President of the Law and Life Sciences student research group, who participated in the Student Leaders’ Forum, moderated by Mr Sherzod Nabiyev.
The Forum provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences with student leaders from Tashkent State University of Law, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent State University of Economics, and Caspian University in Kazakhstan. Our representative was the only speaker from a European university.
His presentation highlighted the importance of student-to-student cooperation, inspired by the Latin motto Alter Alterum Docet (“One teaches the other”).
Among the examples presented were joint academic seminars, student debates and research initiatives involving students from different universities. Particular attention was given to the Gdańsk Seminar on the Tradition of Private Law, which featured contributions from TSUL students.
But international cooperation is not limited to lecture halls!
One particularly memorable initiative was our international culinary workshop in December 2025, when Polish students and their colleagues from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan prepared traditional Uzbek plov together, with a distinctive Gdańsk twist! Organised jointly by student organisations and international students, the event demonstrated how shared experiences help build friendships, mutual understanding and lasting academic connections.
And there is much more to come!
Students from both partner universities are exploring further opportunities for cooperation, including a buddy system for incoming exchange students, participation of TSUL students in future academic seminars, a joint online Oxford-style debate comparing Polish and Uzbek regulations concerning medicines and pharmacies, and other student-led initiatives.
These activities demonstrate that international academic partnerships are built not only through institutional agreements, but above all through the enthusiasm, creativity and personal relationships of students themselves.
We are particularly grateful to Rector Prof. Bakhshillo Khodjayev for his support for international academic cooperation and for recognising our Faculty’s contribution with a Certificate of Appreciation presented to our student representative.
Our sincere thanks also go to Mr Jasurbek Maksudov and Mr Sherzod Nabiyev, as well as the TSUL Students’ Association, for their excellent organisation, warm hospitality and commitment to strengthening ties between our academic communities.
We look forward to many more joint initiatives connecting students in Gdańsk and Tashkent!
Do zobaczenia w Gdańsku! Ko‘rishguncha, Toshkent!
