International Summer School at our Faculty
From 19 July to 1 August 2026, the University of Gdańsk hosted the inaugural edition of the Baltic Family Summer School – Future Skills Edition, organised jointly by the Faculty of Law and Administration and the University of Gdańsk International Cooperation and Internationalisation Office. The two-week programme, following the successful inaugural programme held last year, brought together students from two of the Faculty’s partner universities: Ocean University of China in Qingdao and Tashkent State University of Law in Uzbekistan.
The Summer School was conceived as an intensive programme combining legal education, the development of future-oriented skills, and first-hand experience of an international and intercultural academic environment. Classes were delivered by academics from the University of Gdańsk alongside visiting professors from partner institutions abroad.
The academic programme addressed a broad spectrum of contemporary legal and social issues. The School opened with workshops led by Dr Magdalena Anita Gajewska, devoted to cultural diversity in higher education. Dr hab. Nataliia Mushak explored European Union law, human rights and migration, while Mateusz Kaźmierczak led a workshop examining Chinese investment in Poland and disputes concerning withholding tax.
Over the following days, participants also explored the practical dimensions of the legal profession. Dr hab. Edvardas Juchnevicius, Professor at the University of Gdańsk, delivered a session entitled Storytelling in the Legal Profession, while Dr Łukasz Kielin addressed practical aspects of Polish and European financial law. New technologies formed another important strand of the programme. Elton Romeo Hart of the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, discussed the use of artificial intelligence in judicial decision-making and the admissibility of electronic evidence in civil and criminal proceedings before South African courts. The programme also featured lectures by visiting professors from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and India.
The Summer School extended well beyond the lecture theatre. Participants met with experts from Invest in Pomerania, gaining an insight into the region’s economic potential and the conditions for investment in Pomerania. They also visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Gdańsk. An extensive cultural and social programme formed an integral part of the School, including a guided tour of Gdańsk, visits to the Amber Museum and the Museum of the Second World War, as well as a range of activities designed to give our international students a closer acquaintance with Gdańsk and the wider Pomeranian region.
The two-week programme concluded on 30 July with presentations by the participants and a formal certificate ceremony. The School offered not only an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and develop valuable skills, but also a forum for direct exchange between students and academics from several countries, further strengthening the ties between the University of Gdańsk and its international partners.
The Baltic Family Summer School 2026 marked another step in the Faculty of Law and Administration’s expanding cooperation with academic partners in Asia. By bringing together students from China and Uzbekistan and academics representing different legal systems and traditions, the School combined legal education with the practical experience of international academic cooperation – one of the central pillars of the Faculty’s approach to the internationalisation of education.
